Adaptive Strength & Rehab Training

Supporting functional movement, strength and independence for those with immobilising conditions.

Welcome to Ryan Biggs coaching! In our rehab-focused gym in Esher, Surrey, movement is taught or restored through carefully adapted and evidence-based strength & rehabilitation training.

Whether it’s you or your child’s first time in a gym, or you’ve had plenty of experience, here at Ryan Biggs Coaching, exercises are carefully selected specifically for you or your child’s needs. I aim to help everyone gain strength, control & confidence.

My Philosophy

Strength

Strength is the foundation for all movement. Walking, running, pushing wheelchairs and climbing stairs all require the ability to produce force. For children with disabilities, gaining strength can be difficult. However, research continuously indicates that strength training can significantly improve:

  • Co-ordination

  • Physical Movement

  • Balance & Stability

  • Confidence & Overall Health

Control

Being able to produce force is one thing, but being able to control force is another. Control refers to the ability to use strength efficiently, by training to improve stability, balance and proprioception. Research indicates that developing skeletal control can help children:

  • Move more efficiently

  • Improve coordination

  • Reduce fatigue

  • Postural Control

Confidence

Physical development is about more than just movement. My goal (alongside every parents) is for each child to be the happiest versions of themselves. Physical development plays a vital role in improving confidence and mental wellbeing. Research suggests that exercise participation can impact:

  • Sports participation

  • Mental wellbeing

  • Independence

  • Willingness to try new challenges

About Me

My Mission

Everyone can progress, no matter their circumstances. My role is to harness that potential through structured strength, and rehabilitation-based coaching. I believe that all children, regardless of age, ability or diagnosis, deserve access to high-quality training that develops strength, confidence, coordination, and long-term physical ability. The aim is always to create meaningful improvements that transfer into everyday movement.

My Approach

While evidence-based training forms the foundation of my coaching, I believe children learn best when they are enjoying themselves. Through games, competitions and interactive activities, I aim to create an environment that feels supportive and collaborative rather than instructional. Instead of being told what to do, children are encouraged to take ownership of their progress, build confidence and develop a positive relationship with movement and exercise.

Me

Hi, I’m Ryan, a Strength & Conditioning Coach from South London. I spent my childhood playing a variety of sports, but fell in love with rugby and weightlifting. At University, I began coaching youth athletes in Cricket, Football & Rugby, but when I started coaching children with Cerebral Palsy, I instantly connected with them and their goals. Each child I coached had a different diagnosis and ability, requiring adaptability and pragmatism.
